The element of hand stitch can lend texture, depth and form to your fabric. In this workshop, we’ll look at marks and patterns in the work of other artists and traditions, and in actual samples that you can study up close. You will then do your own montage and stitch experiments on fabric. With these examples, we’ll create a working study book for your future reference.

Lesson Plan

Students can expect to gain an increased understanding and experience of the use of various styles of hand stitch, as well as becoming aware of the effect of the underlying base fabrics. This can enhance their work by helping them to evoke a mood and express their narrative. With the samples the students make during the workshop, we will create a simple and effective reference guide in the form of a small book, which can continue to be added to as they wish.
